Link encounters many characters and hazards from the Mario series during his quest.
Mario
At the beginning of the game, you meet Tarin, who is based on Mario. According to the Link's Awakening manual, Tarin "loves mushrooms and often goes to the forest in search of some for his dinner." Also, the raccoon in the forest turns out to be Tarin. When he's back to normal, he says the last thing he remembers was biting into a toadstool.
Luigi
The henhouse keeper living in Tal Tal Mountains resembles Luigi.
Yoshi
The Yoshi Doll that you can win in the Trendy Game starts a trading sidequest.
Chain Chomp
The friendly Chain Chomp is known as "BowWow," which is a direct translation of his Japanese name, "WanWan." BowWow's owner also has two small Chomps as pets.
Princess Peach
The goat's letter that you give to Mr. Write comes with a photo of Princess Peach (although the name at the bottom says "Christine").
Wart
Wart is known by his Japanese name, "Mamu." Mamu helps you out by teaching you The Frog's Song of Soul.
Bowser
Some side-scrolling areas have stone Bowser heads that you can shoot your Hook Shot into.
