Overview

Finally, a portable Mario Kart! This one pits the graphically-superior Mario Kart 64 racers against each other in the classic Super Mario Kart style.

Power-sliding, Coins on the road, and driver settings/abilities return from SMK. The items are more like Mario Kart 64, but, the collection appears to have been trimmed down a little; the Bunch of Bananas, Fake Item Box, and Super (multi-use) Mushroom appear to be gone, and it seems the Triple Mushroom is only available in Time Trial mode.

Of course, multi-player racing and battling will return. And just like the first two Mario Kart games, you'll have 50, 100, and 150cc speed settings to choose from.

The one-player mode contains a new sub-mode: Free Run. The Free Run mode lets you pick any track you want (like the Time Trial mode) and race against against seven computer opponents (like the GP mode), but your best times are not saved. As you might imagine, the Free Run mode is good for practice.
